Terms of Service
1. Who you are agreeing with
Churr is operated by a sole proprietorship registered in Ontario, Canada. Contact: [email protected].
These terms are a contract between you and Churr. If you do not agree with them, do not use the app.
2. You have to be 18
Churr is for adults. You must be 18 or over to have an account, and you confirm that when you sign up. The app exists to put two strangers in the same physical place, and that is not something we are willing to do with minors.
3. What Churr is
You are interviewed once by an AI. That interview builds a twin: an AI stand-in for you. While you sleep, your twin talks to other people's twins in your neighbourhood. In the morning you are shown up to three introductions, each with the whole conversation your twins had, and you decide whether to say hello.
Two things follow from that, and they matter:
- Your twin is not you and it is not a person. It is software producing text. It can be wrong about you. It can be wrong about someone else. Everything it says is labelled as coming from an AI, everywhere it appears.
- Your twin never talks to a human, and no human's twin talks to you. Twins talk to twins; people talk to people. A twin cannot post in your chat.
4. Your account
One person, one account, tied to one phone number. Do not create an account for anyone else, do not let someone else use yours, and do not impersonate anyone. We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why unless doing so would put someone at risk.
5. What you may not do
- Harass, threaten, stalk, defame or abuse anyone, in the app or after meeting them through it.
- Post or send sexual content involving children, non-consensual sexual content, or content that promotes violence, self-harm or hatred against people for who they are.
- Use Churr for anything commercial without our written agreement: no recruiting, no selling, no multi-level marketing, no promotion.
- Try to manipulate other people's twins — including writing text designed to make a twin ignore its instructions or reveal something private. This is screened for, and attempts are recorded.
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or automate access to the service.
- Ask anyone to meet somewhere that is not a public place, or move a first meeting to a home.
The Community Guidelines are part of these terms and describe this in ordinary language.
6. Meeting people is the risky part
This is the paragraph to read twice.
Churr introduces you to strangers. We do not verify identity, background, criminal history or intentions. Phone verification proves someone controls a phone number. The 18+ check is a statement someone made about themselves. A liveness check, when it is running, proves a live human was in front of a camera — nothing else.
You meet at your own risk. You alone decide whether to meet anyone, where, and for how long. Churr is not a party to what happens at a meeting, has no control over the behaviour of anyone you meet, and does not supervise meetings.
Read the safety guidance in the app before a first meeting. In short: meet in the public place in the plan, tell someone where you are going, get yourself there and home, and leave whenever you want.
If someone behaves badly, block and report them from the chat, the introduction or the plan. Reporting someone blocks them from you straight away, both ways. If someone is in danger, call 911 first and tell us afterwards.
7. What you write
You keep ownership of everything you tell Churr. You give us permission to store it, to process it, and to use it to run the product — which specifically means: to build and operate your twin, to let your twin have conversations, to show those conversations to the person your twin spoke with, and to show what you marked shareable to the people you are introduced to.
We use your content to improve the product only if you switch that on in Settings. It is off unless you do.
You are responsible for what you write. Do not write things about other people that you do not have the right to share.
8. Reports, moderation and removal
Reporting someone acts immediately, before anybody has read it. The moment you send the report:
- You and that person are blocked from each other, both ways. You disappear from each other's lists, your twins will never be introduced, and neither of you sees the other's plans. They are not told that you reported them.
- The one exception is reporting spam. A complaint about an advert is not a complaint about a person being unsafe to be near, so we hide what you reported from you and leave you in the plan or the chat it came from. Blocking is still one tap away, and the app says so.
- None of that waits for us. It is done by the same piece of work that files the report, whatever the hour.
Then a person reads it. We read the worst first — someone under 18, a threat, sexual content — and we do not put a number of hours on it. We would rather tell you what already happened than promise you a deadline one person cannot keep.
We may read a chat, an introduction or a profile when someone reports it, or when an automated screen flags it. We may remove content, remove an introduction, limit an account while we look into a report, suspend an account or remove it permanently. Where we can, we will tell you what happened and why. If someone is in danger, call 911 first.
Free-text venue names are reviewed by a person before a plan using one becomes visible to anyone outside it.
9. Availability
Churr is a new product built by one person. It will have outages, bugs and days where the morning does not arrive. It is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise the introductions will be good, that anyone will reply, or that you will make a friend.
10. Limits on what we owe you
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Churr is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for anything that happens between you and a person you meet through the app. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Churr in the twelve months before the claim, or CAD $50.
Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot be excluded under Ontario or Canadian law, including under the *Consumer Protection Act, 2002*.
11. Money
Nothing in Churr costs you anything to use: the introductions, the plans, the chats and the morning are free and are not going behind a paywall.
There are two paid things in the product, both switched off as this is written, and both described here before they arrive rather than after:
- Rare feathers — a cosmetic beside your name. Sold through Apple's in-app purchase, with the price and what it includes stated before you pay. Nothing about who you meet changes if you buy one, or if you never do.
- Boosts for businesses — a venue or an organiser paying for their event to be shown more widely. That is a business service sold to a business, not a digital good sold to you, so it is billed through the web rather than through Apple. It is labelled as sponsored wherever it appears, and it never changes who your twin is introduced to.
If either of those is switched on for you, it will be visible in the app before it is charged for, and these terms will say so first.
Feathers
Feathers are points you earn inside Churr — for finishing your interview, for meeting somebody and both saying you met, for hosting a plan that happens, for a kudos somebody leaves you. They are not money, and the following is what that means rather than a disclaimer about it:
- Feathers have no cash value and are not money.
- Feathers cannot be bought. There is no price for them, in any currency, anywhere in Churr.
- Feathers cannot be transferred, sent, gifted or pooled between accounts. There is no way to do it and there is no hidden way to do it: the table they live in has nowhere to record who a feather came from, so a transfer is not something Churr can express.
- Feathers cannot be redeemed, cashed out or refunded, and they are not property.
- Feathers are spent on two things only: Churr's own cosmetics, and days of Churr Plus. Nothing outside Churr can be obtained with them.
- A balance is capped at 10,000. Feathers do not expire.
- Feathers go when your account goes, and they are never a debt in either direction.
Days of Churr Plus bought with feathers are not a purchase and are not a subscription: nothing is sold, nothing is charged, and the days simply end. A paid Churr Plus subscription is a separate thing, billed by Apple, and cancelling it is described above.
Inviting friends
Churr gives you a link to invite people. If five people you invited each join, finish their twin and have one meet that both of you confirmed, you get one month of Churr Plus. The same rules apply to it as to feathers, and for the same reason — it is a thing of value and it is not money:
- A referral reward is time on Churr Plus. It is never money, credit or a discount.
- Rewards cannot be transferred, sold, gifted or pooled between accounts.
- Rewards have no cash value and cannot be redeemed, cashed out or refunded.
- A reward is earned when 5 people you invited have each finished their twin and had one confirmed meet.
- At most 3 months can be earned this way in any twelve.
- Invites are per person. Accounts made to collect rewards are removed, and so are the rewards.
Somebody who joins through an invite starts with 14 days of Churr Plus instead of 7. That is our own window and not an App Store trial: it costs nothing, it ends on its own, and taking it does not use up the free trial Apple offers when you subscribe.
We count a meet only when both people confirmed it, and only one invite is ever counted per person — including somebody who deletes their account and signs up again. Neither of those is a penalty; they are what makes the reward mean what it says.
12. Ending it
You can delete your account at any time, from Settings, in two taps. It purges immediately — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what goes.
We can end your access if you break these terms, if we have to for legal reasons, or if Churr shuts down. If Churr shuts down, we will give notice and a chance to export your data.
13. Changes
We will tell you about material changes in the app, and ask you to accept the new version before you carry on. Continuing to use Churr after that means you agree.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario. If you are a consumer, this does not take away rights you have where you live.
